Marcus Velez has signed on to play at the University at Buffalo this fall. A journeyman tight end, Marcus was on the 2018 county runner-up team, after which he played for SUNY Stony Brook, Nassau Community College, Marshal University, Bethune-Cookman University, and now SUNY Buffalo.
Ward Melville alumnus and SUNY Cortland National Champion, JJ Laap, is now with the 14-time Grey Cup champion, Edmonton Elks. JJ helped lead the 2018 Ward Melville Patriots to the county championship in 2018, for which he won the Cassese Award as the best defensive back in Suffolk County. JJ then went on to have a decorated career for the Cortland Red Dragons, eventually winning the National Championship. Last season, JJ played for the Los Angeles Rams during the preseason.

Two Ward Melville Football players were honored by the National Football Foundation on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Senior linemen, Brennan Kurtz was the recipient of the prestigious Golden 11 Award, given to the to 11 football scholar-athletes from Suffolk County. Sophomore quarterback, Hudson Philbrick was awarded player of the week in Suffolk County for week five of the 2024 season, for his performance in Ward Melville's 22-21 win over William Floyd. He went 14 of 20, for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Seven seniors from the Ward Melville football team that finished 9-2 in 2024 as the County runner-up have committed to play football in the fall. This the largest group of graduates to play college football that Ward Melville has ever seen. These Patriots have also been part of historic success for the program, having won the county championship in 2022, and made deep playoff runs in 2023 and 2024. They will certainly continue to make the Three Village community proud at the next level!
